Creating a community-based space
This complete interior renovation of Blue Marble Ice Cream’s original flagship store is a sign of gratitude towards the community in recognition of its support to the company. Initially based in Prospect Heights, Blue Marble has grown from a small business to an established brand, distributing throughout the US and five countries. The new store’s modern and clean image reflects the freshness and originality of the brand’s all-organic identity.
A new storefront matches the colors, materials, and pattern of the interior movable screens. The new store can be divided into two sections for special events or completely opened up to establish a direct connection between the street’s upcoming sidewalk parklet and improved accessibility to the rear garden.

Concepts
The proposed renovation was phased into two parts. Phase I included remodeling the store interior and improving accessibility to the rear garden. Phase II included a new storefront and a sidewalk parklet that establishes a direct visual connection with the improved store. The interior remodel expanded the service area and increased flexible programming space, which includes an event space at garden side, a kids play area with children friendly floor material, a seating area at street side and a new ADA bathroom.
