For a beautifully site sloping towards a lake, MPA is designing a single-level 2800 sf new weekend house, which stretches horizontally to maximize views from all rooms. A wide terrace in front of the living spaces is crowned by a continuous trellis, on which wisteria will grow. The terrace is connected to a series of gardens that follow the topography, creating moments of pause along the path towards the water.

The living area includes an open kitchen and study space, separated by sliding wood grilles. A wide fireplace punctuates the continuous ribbon of windows looking towards the lake, lifting the roof towards the corner to allow sunset light to enter deep into the space. Both the kitchen area and the perimeter wall provide additional up-lighting on the ceiling surface. The wide planks wood floor emphasizes horizontality, with warm tones matching those of the outside cladding.
